About This Tour

This 12-day vacation offers the best of Athens plus a seven-day cruise to Turkey and the Greek Isles. Visit the Acropolis and Athens’ other famous landmarks before boarding your cruise ship to set sail in the Aegean Sea. Your first port is Istanbul, Turkey, where you can enjoy an entire day exploring this fascinating gateway between Asia and Europe. Sail on to Kusadasi to sightsee and shop for exquisite rugs. There’s a chance to see the whitewashed walls of Santorini, and a visit to Heraklion on the island of Crete. You’ll also enjoy a day on the sun-drenched beaches of Rhodes. Other highlights include the tiny Greek island of Patmos where St. John The Divine wrote the Revelation, and the mountainous island of Mykonos.

Day 1:
(Tue.) Board your overnight transatlantic flight.

Day 2:
Arrival in Athens, Greece. (Wed.) Time to rest or to start exploring the Hellenic capital. At 6 p.m. meet your Athens Host and traveling companions for a welcome drink.

Day 3:
Athens. (Thu.) Morning sightseeing with a Local Guide features the Parthenon’s crowning beauty atop the ACROPOLIS, the Erechtheum with its Porch of Maidens, the beautifully preserved Theseum, Roman Temple of Zeus and Theater of Dionysus, and the Agora where Socrates taught. Vistas of the Royal Palace, government buildings, and elegant homes in the modern city provide a striking contrast to the remains of a glorious past. The afternoon is free. How about a Greek-style dinner tonight? Your host knows where to find local fare and entertainment reminiscent of Zorba the Greek. (BB)

Day 4:
Athens–Piraeus (Embarkation). (Fri.) Morning at leisure in Athens. In the afternoon drive to Piraeus for embarkation. Around 3 p.m. sail into the deep blue waters of the Aegean Sea, easily settling into the cruising routine of sunbathing and sipping cool drinks. (BB,D)

Day 5:
Istanbul, Turkey. (Sat.) Plenty of time to get acquainted with the ship’s amenities as you cruise towards Istanbul. (FB,L,D)

Day 6:
Istanbul. (Sun.) Full day at leisure for optional sightseeing in this fascinating city, gateway between East and West and the Islamic and Christian world. Depart early evening. (FB,L,D)

Day 7:
Mykonos, Greece. (Mon.) This morning, cruise towards the mountainous island of Mykonos, with its characteristic windmills and dazzling white houses. Arrive in the afternoon with plenty of time to wander at whim through narrow paved streets lined with trendy boutiques and shady tavernas. (FB,L,D)

Day 8:
Patmos–Kusadasi, Turkey. (Tue.) Early morning arrival in Patmos. The tiny island is where St. John the Divine wrote the Revelation. The 11th-century monastery with its valuable manuscript collection is well worth a visit. Mid-morning departure for Kusadasi arriving early afternoon. An optional excursion takes you to Ephesus’ Greek, Roman, and Byzantine excavations. (FB,L,D)

Day 9:
Rhodes. (Wed.) Dock in Rhodes, largest of the Dodecanese Islands and site of the Colossus of Rhodes, a 105-foot statue destroyed by an earthquake in 224 B.C. Most of the day is dedicated to the island of Rhodes. Explore the sights in the historic Old City with its ramparts and palaces built by the Knights of St. John during the Crusades. Another possibility: join an optional excursion to Lindos and the fabulous Temple of Athena. Rhodes’ sun-drenched beaches also beckon. (FB,L,D)

Day 10:
St. Nicholas & Santorini. (Thu.) Early arrival in picturesque St. Nicholas. Enjoy a fascinating optional excursion to Knossos...cliff-top village of Oia for a breathtaking view. (FB,L,D)

Due to heavy congestion in the port of Heraklion, your cruise ship will instead call at the picturesque port of St. Nicholas, capital city of Eastern Crete.

Day 11:
Piraeus (Disembarkation)–Athens. (Fri.) After breakfast on board, disembark at Piraeus and return to Athens. The remainder of the day is free to catch up on last-minute shopping. (FB)

Day 12:
(Sat.) Your homebound flight arrives the same day. (BB)

Standard Offers and Specials provided by Globus

Discount for young travelers

Share the pleasure of a Globus vacation with your children and grandchildren and take advantage of a 10-percent discount on the land-only price. For eligibility, children must be under 18 years of age on the departure date and must be accompanied by an adult. On escorted vacations we don’t accept children under eight years old because we have found that they are too young to enjoy these vacations.

Pay less for your second vacation

We charge you vacation price for your first vacation in 2008, but for every additional Globus vacation you take in the same year, you pay US$35 under list. Our vacations are designed and scheduled so you can combine them almost any way you want. It’s fun to play the add-a-vacation game yourself or talk to your travel agent.

Triple room reduction

On most Globus vacations you receive a reduction when three people travel together and share the same accommodations. Triple room reductions, when available, are listed on the itinerary pages. A word of caution: Triple rooms usually are no larger than twin rooms and the third bed, if there is one, is often a rollaway put in a twin-bedded room.

Avoid the single room supplement

We do not take reservations on a “share” basis because we have found that strangers rarely enjoy sharing a room for the duration of their vacation. Avoid the single room supplement by traveling with a friend. It’s less expensive and much more fun!

Do you have a large party of friends or family that wants to travel?

Right now when you book between 5 and 7 people before December 31, 2008, each passenger will save $75.* For example, book 5 passengers and receive a $375 discount, 6 passengers equals a $450 discount and 7 passengers will receive a $525 discount. With an offer like this, the world’s greatest destinations are now closer than ever!

*Book a 2009 Globus vacation for five, six or seven travelers to receive the $75 off per person offer. Booking must be made, under deposit, and discount applied between Jun 4 and Dec 31, 2008 for travel through December 31, 2009. Individuals must be traveling together from the same origination point to receive the discount. Not valid with any other offer and applies to new 2009 bookings only. Offer reliant on space availability. Full cancellation penalties will apply. Additional restrictions may apply.
