Day 3: London–Cambridge–York. (Mon.) After a hearty English breakfast, meet your Tour Director and traveling companions and depart London at 8 a.m. for a day of northbound travel packed with attractions: the beautiful university city of Cambridge, one of the country’s oldest seats of learning; BELVOIR CASTLE, the stately home of the Duke and Duchess of Rutland, which houses one of England’s finest private art collections. In York follow your Tour Director on a walking tour through a maze of quaint medieval streets, including the narrow Shambles. Before dinner at your hotel in York join your Tour Director for a toast to happy touring with a congenial group. (FB,D) Day 4: York–Edinburgh, Scotland. (Tue.) For departure numbers 0804, 0811, and 0818 the optional Scottish evening is replaced with included tickets for tonight’s performance of the world-renowned MILITARY TATTOO, a vast spectacle of massed Scottish pipe bands which takes place in an arena on the esplanade of Edinburgh Castle. On the way through the history-steeped Lowland Hills, visit Gretna Green, where the blacksmith used to wed runaway couples. In the tranquil Lake District, often considered the finest of England’s national parks, take a break in Wordsworth’s beloved Grasmere. Spend the night at Chester, the historic walled city on the River Dee. (FB,D) Day 6: Chester–Stratford–London. (Thu.) On this morning’s Chester walking tour see the Roman remains, the black and white half-timbered buildings, and the two-tiered arcades called the “Rows.” In Stratford-upon-Avon take your photos of Anne Hathaway’s Cottage, visit SHAKESPEARE’S BIRTHPLACE, and stroll through the picturesque town. Skirting the Cotswold Hills, return to London around 4 p.m. How about celebrating the success of your vacation by taking in a West End show tonight? (FB) Day 7: (Fri.) For eligibility, children must be under 18 years of age on the departure date and must be accompanied by an adult. On escorted vacations we don’t accept children under eight years old because we have found that they are too young to enjoy these vacations.
Pay less for your second vacation We charge you vacation price for your first vacation in 2008, but for every additional Globus vacation you take in the same year, you pay US$35 under list. Our vacations are designed and scheduled so you can combine them almost any way you want. It’s fun to play the add-a-vacation game yourself or talk to your travel agent.
Triple room reduction On most Globus vacations you receive a reduction when three people travel together and share the same accommodations. Triple room reductions, when available, are listed on the itinerary pages. A word of caution: Triple rooms usually are no larger than twin rooms and the third bed, if there is one, is often a rollaway put in a twin-bedded room.
Avoid the single room supplement We do not take reservations on a “share” basis because we have found that strangers rarely enjoy sharing a room for the duration of their vacation. Avoid the single room supplement by traveling with a friend. It’s less expensive and much more fun!
